ZouZou for example is just an ordinary French melodrama but it has couple of instances of near toplessness and an African-American leading lady in Josephine Baker - It's almost like an alternate celluloid history of the 1930s. It’s amazing that expat Josephine Baker would have had to drink from a separate water fountain back home but in Paris she was treated like an equal.
