A lot of this stuff is years old and posted to sites using dial-up or very slow broadband connections. When you're working with super slow connections the trade-off is grainy and blurry video for small file sizes - you can't expect hd quality on a dial-up connection. Fifteen to twenty years ago the longer you used your dial-up connection or the more data you used with your broadband line, the more you paid - so to wrap up a long story, it kinda makes sense these old videos were what they were quality wise.
